- National Food Safety Education Month Kicks Off with Training Tools and Posters
(Chicago) The National Restaurant Association encourages restaurant and foodservice operators to celebrate its 16th annual National Food Safety Education Month. This month-long campaign is held every September and focuses on the importance of food safety education for the restaurant and foodservice industry, while raising awareness of the industry's commitment to food safety. The theme of this year's National Food Safety Education Month is "High-Risk Customers: Serve Your Fare with Extra Care."
- Restaurant Industry Outlook Remained Uncertain in July as Restaurant Performance Index Remains Essentially Flat
(Washington, D.C.) As a result of soft sales and traffic levels and a deteriorating outlook among restaurant operators, the National Restaurant Association's comprehensive index of restaurant activity remained essentially flat in July. The Association's Restaurant Performance Index (RPI) - a monthly composite index that tracks the health of and outlook for the U.S. restaurant industry - stood at 99.4 in July, down 0.1 percent from June and its fourth consecutive decline. In addition, the RPI stood below 100 for the third consecutive month, which signifies contraction in the index of key industry indicators.
